     Chief Newkirk began his career in 1997 as a Jailer for the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. He achieved his goal of becoming a police officer in 1998, as a Merit Deputy with the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. While at the Henry County Sheriff’s Department Newkirk served as a Road Deputy, Investigator and Detective.  Newkirk held assignments as a member of the S.W.A.T. Team, Hostage Negotiation Team, Drug Task force, Homicide Investigation Team and C.I.D.  Newkirk joined the Butler University Police Department in 2004 where he held the rank of Sergeant/Investigations Coordinator.  Newkirk moved on to start his administrative career in 2007 when he started with the M.S.D. of Pike Township Police Department.  Newkirk served as the Assistant Chief of police of the M.S.D. of Pike Township Police Department.  Newkirk counts himself fortunate to have worked in such a variety of assignments during his first 20 years in law enforcement.  He intends to draw from those experiences as he encourages a balanced approach to law enforcement, emphasizing a commitment of support for Knightstown Police Department officers and civilians while promoting strong community partnerships.
